Serving Gogebic, Iron and Ontonagon Counties

Hurley - In honor of Dr. Seuss, students at Hurley K-12 and their grandparents ate green eggs and ham for breakfast Friday.
Holding food trays, the children and grandparents waited in a long line to get their food. Among those in line were Kamryn Swartz, a fourth-grader, and her grandmother, Deb Swartz.
Kamryn said she was excited about eating food inspired by the famous children's book by Dr. Seuss. At the front of the line, Linda Zarzyski and others served the famous food dish.
In the children's book, a character known as "Sam-I-Am" bothers another man to try green eggs and ham. He refuses, responding, "I do not like them, Sam-I-Am. I do not like green eggs and ham."
He continues to repeat this as Sam follows him, encouraging him to eat them in eight locations, but he still refuses, responding, "I do not like them here or there. I do not like them anywhere."
Finally, he gives in and tries green eggs and ham, which he likes after all, and says, "I do so like green eggs and ham. Thank you. Thank you, Sam-I-Am."
Kevin Genisot, elementary principal, said Dr Seuss "instilled a love of reading for kids" and having green eggs and ham can inspire them to do so.
He said sharing a meal brings students and their grandparents closer together.
Dr. Seuss, who was born Theodor Seuss Geisel, died in 1991. He would have been 112 years old on Wednesday.
