HURLEY, Wis. — Marie Osterman, 97, of Hurley, a former longtime Ironwood, Mich., resident, died peacefully Monday morning, March 7, 2016, at Sky View Nursing Center in Hurley, with her loving family by her side.
The former Marie Hill was born Oct. 8, 1918, in Ironwood, daughter of the late James and Mabel (Odgers) Hill, and graduated from Luther L. Wright High School in 1936.
She was united in marriage to Anthony “Tony” Osterman on Aug. 30, 1941, at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Ironwood by the late Rev. Carl Petranek. Tony preceded her in death on March 22, 2007.
Prior to her marriage, Marie worked at the S.S. Kresge Co. in downtown Ironwood and later as bookkeeper at Twin City Fuel Co. She was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church in Ironwood and its United Methodist Women, and enjoyed sewing, puzzle books, jigsaw puzzles and playing smear. She especially enjoyed making pasties every Saturday for family and friends.
Surviving are two daughters, Judy (Jim) Huss and Karen (Larry) Talkowski, both of Ironwood; eight grandchildren, Carl (Carianne) Huss, Jayne (Ed) Silveira, Erica Sholl, Renee (Dave) Pertile, Dan (Ellen) Talkowski, Michael (Ann) Skowronski, Jeffrey Skowronski and Becky Skowronski; five great-grandchildren, Jaymes and Tesh-Ann Silveira, Samantha Pertile (Kevin Schneller), Shawn Pertile and Rocky Sholl; sisters-in-law, Lena Osterman, Ironwood, and Sigrid Bonetti, Bruce Crossing, Mich .; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Besides her parents and husband, Marie was predeceased by a daughter, Susan Skowronski; son-in-law, John Skowronski; grandson, Benji Wesa; and brother, Owen Hill.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, March 12, at 11 a.m., preceded by visitation at 10 a.m., at Wesley United Methodist Church in Ironwood, with Pastor Rosemary DeHut officiating.
Luncheon will follow in the church fellowship hall.
Spring committal and interment will be in Riverside Cemetery, Ironwood.
Pallbearers will be Larry Talkowski, Dan Talkowski, Dave Pertile, Shawn Pertile, Michael Skowronski and Jeffrey Skowronski.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Wesley United Methodist Church.
