Pauline E. 'Polly' Anderson

HURLEY, Wis. - Pauline E. "Polly" Anderson, 93, of Ironwood Township, Mich., died Friday evening, March 11, 2016, at Villa Maria Health and Rehabilitation Center in Hurley.

She was born Oct. 17, 1922, in Ironwood, daughter of the late Carl and Estella (Johnson) Anderson, attended Ironwood area schools, and graduated from Luther L. Wright High School in 1940. She attended Gogebic Community College and Northern Michigan College of Education in Marquette, receiving a Bachelor of Science degree in education. She then taught second grade for 39 years, three years in Watersmeet, Mich., and 36 years in Wakefield, Mich., until her retirement.

Polly was a faithful and lifelong member of Salem Lutheran Church in Ironwood, where she served as a greeter and was a member of the Salem Quilters, Altar Guild and Women of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of America (WELCA). She enjoyed spending time with her family at the family cottage at Little Girl's Point.

Surviving are a niece, Jill (Colin) Carpenter, Wausaukee; nephew, Perry (Lucinda) Roberts, Ashwaubenon; great-niece, Alease (Brandon) Kuntz, Green Bay; great-nephews, Cory Carpenter, Wausaukee, and Brad Carpenter and Jared Roberts, both of Green Bay; and great-great-niece, Olivia Kuntz.

Besides her parents, Polly was predeceased by her sister, Jean Roberts, on Sept. 5, 2009; and brother-in-law, Frederick Roberts, Jan. 22, 2006.

Out of respect for her wishes, cremation has taken place.

Memorial services will be held Saturday, March 19, at 11 a.m., preceded by visitation at 10 a.m., at Salem Lutheran Church in Ironwood, with Pastor Kurt Kovanen officiating.

Luncheon will follow in the church fellowship hall.

Private committal and interment will be in Riverside Cemetery, Ironwood, in the spring.

Contributions in Polly's memory may be made to the Salem Lutheran Church Memorial Fund.
