Ironwood — The Ironwood City Commission awarded a $99,167 bid Monday for a Carnegie Library facade improvement project.
Angelo Luppino Inc., of Iron Belt, Wis., submitted the low bid among three received by the city.
City manager Scott Erickson said 60 percent of the project will be financed by a grant, with the library covering the rest.
Tuckpointing, chimney work, replacing the front door, railing and improving the retaining wall are included in bid specifications.
The commission also awarded a Depot Park playground equipment bid to Miracle Midwest for $37,000. The project is funded mostly by a Department of Natural Resources grant, with a $5,000 local match.
The city received four competitive bids on the playground project, with each bid containing a number of options.
The bid selected was recommended by the parks and recreation committee.
The playground equipment will be installed on a 30-by-60-foot wood chip surface east of the pavilion and south of the walking path.
Plans call for the equipment to be installed prior to Festival Ironwood.
Commissioners also approved a resolution seeking a Michigan DNR Passport grant for renovation of the Memorial Building gymnasium.
Replacement of the floor, upgrading lights and new plaster and paint would be included in the work.
A $45,000 grant is being sought, with a $15,000 local match available in a Memorial Building fund.
April 1 is the grant submission deadline.
Most MDNR grants are for outdoor projects, but the department also funds some indoor projects, community development director Michael Brown noted.
