Winter weather in forecast for Ironwood

Ironwood — Area residents will endure a chilly week ahead with the forecast predicting more winter-like weather.

Beginning Friday, Ironwood accumulated more than 4 1/2 inches of snow last weekend.

Moving further into the work week, The National Wether Service predicts winter weather will stick around.

Today, snow is likely in the morning through the afternoon. The chance of precipitation is 60 percent. Accumulation is reported to be less than 1 inch possible. At night, snow is possible with a mix of rain. New snow accumulation is expected to be 1-to-2 inches.

On Wednesday, snow is likely. The chance of precipitation is 60 percent. At night, there is a 30 percent chance of snow. Then on Thursday and Friday, there is a chance of more snow accumulation.

Over the course of the month, Jim Salzwedel, a hydrometeorological technician, predicts temperatures are going to be normal for April in Big Snow Country.

During the second week of April, Salzwedel said temperatures could feel like spring or winter, with snow and sunshine in the forecast.

Salzwedel said the average total snowfall accumulation for April is 11.4 inches. He said the record total accumulation recorded for April is 44.9 inches.

Salzwedel said the daily record of accumulation was recorded on April 4, 2007, with 13.2 inches.

Over the next 90 days, Salzwedel predicts temperatures are going to be warmer than normal for the area.
