Serving Gogebic, Iron and Ontonagon Counties
MERCER, Wis. — the Iron County Deer Advisory Council is meeting April 18 to provide the public a final opportunity to comment on the council’s recommendation of not allowing any antlerless deer to be killed in Iron County during the 2016 hunting season.
The council will hold its final spring meeting at 7 p.m. at the Mercer Community Center, according to a release from the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources, where it will receive input on its recommendations regarding antlerless deer harvest quotas, permit levels and season structure recommendations.
“These recommendations are expected to increase the county’s deer herd,” the release said.
The council’s preliminary recommendations, which were formed in March, can be found at dnr.wi.gov, searching the keyword “CDAC,” and clicking “find,” followed by selecting “Iron.”
The councils considered scientific data and public opinion in crafting the recommendations, the DNR said.
Members of the public can also comment prior to April 17 by contacting a CDAC member — the list is available on the DNR website — or emailing [email protected].
Following the meeting, the recommendations will be presented to the DNR following the April meeting and then to the Natural Resources Board for approval in May.
