Ironwood to host UP trails meeting

IRONWOOD — Trails are important to Ironwood’s economy and the system of walking and recreational vehicle paths throughout the city will be highlighted this summer.

City manager Scott Erickson said the city will host a trails meeting for entities from the western half of the Upper Peninsula on Friday, June 17.

Erickson told city commissioners this week the gathering at the Memorial Building will showcase the trail systems here, including the Western Gateway hiking-biking trail that is part of the Detroit to Ironwood Iron Belle Trail.

Erickson also noted a meeting for mountain biking trail enthusiasts was scheduled for today at 4:30 p.m. at the Maplewood Steak House on Cloverland Drive.

He also stressed the importance of the Snow Shakers trail grooming meting scheduled with the Michigan Department of Natural Resources for Thursday, April 28, at 1 p.m. in the business center at Gogebic Community College.

The Snow Shakers groom snowmobile trails, but need more support from both its membership and businesses.
