IRONWOOD TOWNSHIP — A 49-year-old Hurley man died in a Saturday afternoon kayaking accident on the Black River.
Clint Mabie suffered a head injury around 2:30 p.m. while kayaking near Narrows Creek, according to Michigan State Police from the Wakefield Post.
State police and deputies from the Gogebic County Sheriff’s Department responded, along with paramedics from Beacon Ambulance, after receiving a report that a member of a group of kayakers had been injured.
The Gogebic County Search and Rescue team, Ironwood Township Fire Department. Gogebic County Victims Services unit and Michigan Department of Natural Resources also responded.
Mabie was employed by Xcel Energy in Ironwood.
