Ellen L. (Carlson) Steed

ONTONAGON, Mich. - Ellen L. (Carlson) Steed, 95, of White Pine, passed away Thursday, April 14, 2016, at Aspirus Ontonagon Hospital with her family by her side.

Ellen was born to Henry and Marie Carlson on Aug. 28, 1920, in Minnesota. Ellen was known for her fine cooking and worked at numerous area establishments, including the Nonesuch Post. Ellen was also known for her love of friends and family and was known to many as "Gramma Ellen."

She had a heart of gold and helped many people throughout the years. Ellen was known to relocate often and made many places her home. Her last residence has been in White Pine, with her loving daughter, Kris, who has a special place in all of our hearts for the wonderful care she provided to Ellen over the years.

Ellen is survived by her children, Jeanene (Tom) Behnke, Donald (Jeanette) Picotte, Sandra (Andy) Aubrey, Ronald (Kristin) Picotte, Karen Howard, Kris Steed, Candy Steed and Lisa (Aaron) Gray; 23 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; and great-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins.

Ellen was preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Marie Carlson; loving husband, Dorese "Pops" Steed; sons, Doug and Michael; sisters, Marjorie and Muriel; brother, Pete; and grandson, Michael.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, April 30, at 3 p.m. at the White Pine Community Church. Friends may call at the church one hour prior to the service. We will follow up with a celebration of life luncheon at the White Pine American Legion.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff at Aspirus Ontonagon Hospital who provided her with exceptional care.

Ellen is now dancing with the love of her life, Dorese "Pops" Steed, waltzing across Texas. We love you more!
