IRONWOOD, Mich. — Mary E. “Sis” Carlson, 88, of Ironwood, died Thursday, April 14, 2016, at Westgate Nursing, Rehabilitation and Assisted Living Community in Ironwood.
The former Mary Blomquist was born Feb. 22, 1928, in Ironwood, daughter of the late John and Hildur (Anderson) Blomquist. She attended Ironwood schools and graduated from Luther L. Wright High School in 1946. She then was employed at the Hansen Glove Factory in Ironwood for 15 years.
Mary was a member of Salem Lutheran Church in Ironwood and the former Grace Lutheran Church. She sang in both Grace and Salem choirs for 55 years and served on the Salem Church Council for six years. She was an avid sports fan and enjoyed golf and bowling.
On Sept. 22, 1955, Mary was united in marriage to Leroy N. Carlson at Grace Lutheran Church in Ironwood by the late Rev. John Kendall. Leroy preceded her in death on Dec. 31, 2007.
Surviving are her daughter, Mary Lee (Lyn) Stewart, Kent, Wash .; two grandsons, Brian (Bridgett) Stewart, Kent, and Christopher (Lisa) Stewart, Graham, Wash .; brother, Ed Blomquist, Ironwood; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, Mary was predeceased by a brother, John Blomquist; and two sisters-in-law, Betty Blomquist and Carol Blomquist.
Private family services were held.
Interment will be in Riverside Cemetery, Ironwood, later this spring.
