IRON RIVER, Mich. - Phyllis Jane Shahin, 88, of Watersmeet, died April 15, 2016, at Aspirus Iron River Hospital in Iron River.
She was born in Elkhart, Ind., on Oct. 12, 1927, a daughter of Walter and Sarah (Simons) Price. Phyllis attended Oslo Elementary and Elkhart High School. On Jan. 4, 1947, she married Richard F. Shahin in Fort Wayne, Ind. He preceded her in death on Aug. 27, 2002.
Phyllis enjoyed crafts and making Indian jewelry, hunting, music and dance, antiquing, flowers and was a jack-of-all-trades. She liked snowmobiling and was vice-president of the Zig Zag Snowmobile Club. Phyllis was also a member of the Lions Club, Royal Neighbors Club and the American Legion Auxiliary. She worked at Skamper Camper in Bristol and was owner and operator of Totems Bait Shop in Watersmeet for 18 years. She also worked at Lac Vieux Desert Casino and was a chef for the tribal seniors.
Surviving Phyllis are her daughter, Melody (Dean Roy) Maki, Ewen; son, Richard W. (Judy) Price, Mass City; grandchildren, Michelle Shahin, Erick (Ashton) Shahin, Sara (Cory) Kestis and Kirby Burk III; 11 great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild; sister, Lois King; and brothers, Don Price and Pastor Bob (Charlene) Price.
She was preceded in death by her parents and husband.
Relatives and friends will be received today, from 1 to 2 p.m., at Eley Funeral Home in Constantine, where funeral services will follow at 2 p.m. Interment will be in Mottville Township Cemetery. Pastor Bob Price will officiate. Messages may be left for the family at eleyfuneralhomes.com.
