ONTONAGON - An ongoing trail improvement project at the Ontonagon Area School was dedicated Tuesday to a teacher whose career spanned 30 years of the district.
Francis Fritz Zimmer taught biological sciences in the district from 1953-83. That period spanned the time the district went from Ontonagon to later include Greenland Township and Rockland.
When the new school was built, Zimmer celebrated Earth Day by having students plant trees in an area adjacent to the school, now a hiking trail.
