Ironwood Township - There's stop and go lights on Lake Road near Little Girl's Point for the first time.
Repair work on the Montreal River bridge at the Michigan-Wisconsin border line is under way and travel has been reduced to a single lane during repairs on the bridge. Lane dividers have also been placed on the roadway, to protect workers from passing vehicles.
There will also be four other bridge projects this summer in the county, costing a total of around $1.8 million.
Hebert Construction, Iron River workers said the bridge work on the Montreal River bridge in cooperation with the Gogebic County Road Commission will last for about a month and they will then return in August.
Tom Leaf, of the road commisison, and Russ LaFave, of Hebert, inspected the under side of the bridge on the lower flowage Friday morning from a floating platform.
Motorists are advised to slow down in the area of the bridge work and observe the stop lights.
The Montreal River bridge rehabilitation work for $300,000 will include concrete spall repair, expansion joint replacement, bridge guard rail upgrades and approach paving to extend the life of the bridge by 25 to 30 years.
All bridge projects are funded through the Federal Highway Administration and Michigan Department of Transportation Critical Bridge Grant Program.
The project administration is through the Michigan Department of Transportation.
The County Road 519 North bridge work over Jackson Creek in Wakefield Township will cost $450,000.
A Copps Mine Road bridge project over the Presque Isle River in Marenisco Township is pegged at $500,000.
Work on the Roddis Road bridge over Lindesly Lake Channel in Watersmeet Township is also estimated at $500,000.
A smaller project for $40,000 is planned for the Lake Road bridge over Mud Creek in Ironwood Township, where preventative maintenance work is scheduled as part of a Lake Road paving project.
