Paul R. Oberg

WAKEFIELD, Mich. - Paul R. Oberg, 84, of Wakefield, passed away Monday evening, May 16, 2016, at his daughter's home in Wakefield.

Paul was born on Nov. 19, 1931, in Bessemer, a son of Paul Julius and Bernice Evelyn (Champagne) Oberg. He attended Wakefield High School and graduated in 1949.

On Sept. 9, 1952, Paul was united in marriage to Faye Brock in Champaign, Ill. With Paul serving in the U.S. Air Force for 20 years, they made their home in many parts of the United States and the world.

Following his military career, they relocated to Florida where Paul was quite the entrepreneur. They moved back to Wakefield in 1996 to enjoy their golden years.

Paul was a member of the Wakefield American Legion Geroux Post 11. He was an accomplished piano player and was always willing to help others.

Paul is survived by a daughter, Tammy Oberg-Duerr (James Spencer), Wakefield; two grandsons, Shawn Erik Schooley, St. Cloud, Minn., and Jason Paul (Laurie) Schooley, Naples, Fla .; three great-grandchildren, Jacob Alexander Schooley and Madelyn and Brandon Bell, all of Naples; a brother, Brian (Jan), Wakefield; a sister, Barbara Miller, Naples; an aunt, Marion Weiss, San Rafael, Calif .; Faye's sisters, Grace (R.E.) Foss and Melba Gurley; Faye's brother, Robert (Judy) Brock; numerous nieces and nephews; and his special companion, Puppy.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his beloved wife, Faye, on Jan. 31, 2002; a brother, Russell; Faye's sisters, Marjorie Brock, Jean Jones, Una Mae Sattem and Pauline Kensinger; Faye's brother, Earl Brock; and Big Granny, Phrona Brock.

Paul's family wishes to acknowledge and thank profoundly the wonderful caregivers, Rena, Karla and Judy, from Aspirus Grand View Home Health and his nurse, Mary, from Regional Hospice Services. Tammy wants to thank Leonard Ramminger and Brian and Jan Oberg for assisting Paul with the countless trips to and from dialysis treatments, and Greyson Morrow and Jim Spencer for their unselfish help to Paul.

The Oberg family will greet relatives and friends on Saturday, May 21, from 3 to 4 p.m., at the Lakeside Memorial Chapel, 806 Putnam St., in Wakefield, with the honor guard beginning at 3:15 p.m. Military rites will take place at the funeral home at 3:45 p.m. under the auspices of Wakefield American Legion Geroux Post 11 and Wakefield Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 9084 Honor Guard.

A memorial service will follow the military honors at 4 p.m., with Pastor Gary Grabow officiating.
