KING, Wis. — Clyde Olson, 92, passed away peacefully at the Veteran’s Home in King on Saturday, May 21, 2016.
Clyde was born in Bessemer, Mich. on May 15, 1924, the youngest child of Frank Olson and Hilda (Anderson) Olson family, whose fathers emigrated from Sweden in the 1800s eventually settling in the Ironwood, Mich., area.
Clyde was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and fought in the European Theater.
He worked in electronic/communications during the war, and after the war he was employed by the same companies who previously had U.S. Government war contracts. During that time, he lived and worked in Munich, Germany, and other locations. He also worked on the Apollo space program while employed by Lockheed Martin.
After retirement he and his wife, Martha, moved to Iron Belt were they lived for many years and where he served as town treasurer for some time.
Clyde was an avid golfer and he also enjoyed fishing, especially with his sons.
Predeceasing Clyde were his parents; his five brothers; and two sisters.
Surviving Clyde is his past wife, Martha; two sons, Jamie and Dennis; grandson, Carl; and several nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held in his honor at a later date. Clyde’s final resting place will be next to his father, Frank Olson, in the Riverside Cemetery in Ironwood.
