IRONWOOD - Proud families and teachers gathered in Luther L. Wright's John Krznarich Gym Sunday to see Ironwood's Class of 2016 graduate.
The 126th class to graduate from the district, the ceremony featured 56 graduating seniors receiving their diplomas during the ceremony.
After a performance of "I'll Always Remember You," by Ironwood's high school choir, retiring teacher Helen Fashbaugh gave the graduation's commencement address.
As part of her speech, Fashbaugh advised the graduating seniors to recognize the importance of the journey as well as the destination.
"When I was growing up in Mankato Minn., I had this indistinct idea that there would be a time when I arrived, not just in a career ... but a time when I could say, 'That's it, I've done it. I know who I am. I have arrived,'" Fashbaugh said. "I'm now 50-plus years out of high school and while I think I know who I am and have had rewarding careers ... I have not arrived, I'm still traveling. There really wasn't a destination, I've learned, because there is tomorrow.
"When you are in the thick of living; you are traveling, learning, changing, questioning, being surprised and it is wonderful."
Following Fashbaugh's address, school board president Steve Thomas and Superintendent Tim Kolesar presented the seniors with their diplomas.
Senior Class President Isaac Aukee and Student Senate President Jordan Giannunzio also spoke during the ceremony.
The event ended with the ceremonial tossing of the caps outside the school.
