Serving Gogebic, Iron and Ontonagon Counties
HURLEY - The American Voyager Association Rally continued Tuesday, as riders went on self-guided tours around the area.
AVA Chairman Michael McGee said Hurley was selected to host the rally because of its "beautiful scenery."
"Based on the research we did, we liked the Lake Superior area," he said. "We like the forests and the waterfalls. That was fundamental to us in the selection of this area."
Under sunny skies, McGee said riders went on self-guided tours throughout the day to Chequamegon Bay, Clam Lake and Bayfield in Wisconsin, and Ontonagon in Michigan.
On his Kawasaki Voyager, Murray Kennedy of Paisly, Ontario, rode to Clam Lake.
Kennedy said he enjoyed the scenery, calling it a "nice" ride.
During his stay in the Northwoods, McGee said he has ridden as far west to Ashland and went eastbound to Iron Mountain.
"I like the forests up here, all the greenery and Lake Superior," he said.
Today, riders can take a rider's skill class beginning at 8 a.m. This evening they will participate in bike games.
On Thursday, the rally will conclude with dinner at 6 p.m., followed by an awards banquet at the Iron County Memorial Building. In the mean time, there will be plenty of time to explore the greater Northwoods.
