Serving Gogebic, Iron and Ontonagon Counties
HURLEY- Motorcycles have become a familiar sight and sound throughout Gogebic and Iron counties as the American Voyager Association Rally continued Wednesday.
In the morning, the club offered its members a riding skills class.
Later, riders went along a "secret" route with AVA Chairman Mike McGee.
There were bike games in the evening, where attendees tested their skills by making their way through an obstacle course.
Keith Stumpf, of Cleveland, said he is enjoying the rally. The 27th annual four-day event runs through this evening's awards banquet at the Iron County Memorial Building.
Stumpf joined the AVA about 10 years ago, shortly after purchasing a 2002 Kawasaki Voyager.
"Everyone has a Harley. Not everyone has a Voyager," he said.
Stumpf said he and his friends in Ohio travel the countryside and enjoy going on rides hundreds of miles at a time.
Stumpf said he has made numerous friends through the club and encourages more people to join.
"We're a respectable club," he said.
While staying in the area, Stump said he and the AVA like to support the local community.
"We like to patronize local businesses," he said. "The community has been very welcoming."
Officials said 150 riders have signed up for the rally.
Club officials will announce the location of next year's rally at tonight's banquet. Before Hurley, the recent annual rallies have been in New York, Arkansas, Utah, Ohio, North Carolina and Colorado.
