Serving Gogebic, Iron and Ontonagon Counties
HURLEY - With the parking lot full of motorcycles, American Voyager Association members gathered at the Iron County Memorial Building for a banquet and award ceremony Thursday evening to conclude their 27th annual rally.
Earlier in the day, riders went on self-guided tours to a variety of regional destinations, including Clam Lake, Chequamegon Bay, Bayfield and Madeline Island.
During the "long ride," AVA board member Don Medina, of Half Moon Bay, Calif., said he enjoyed seeing the beautiful scenery.
While in the area, Medina said he and other AVA members liked going to the area's restaurants, cafes and bars.
When not riding, Medina said he enjoyed walking around town and seeing "how peaceful and wonderful the city is."
On Wednesday, riders participated in bike games, where attendees tested their skills by making their way through an obstacle course.
Thursday's banquet included a menu of salad, dinner rolls, mashed potatoes, smoked ham, roast beef and strawberry shortcake.
After dinner, awards were given out for Best-in-Show, Most Mature Rider, Youngest Rider and more.
With anticipation growing, AVA members found out the next rally will be in Nashville, Ind. A town of 800 people.
It's tradition to announce the site of next year's rally at the end of this year's, according to one member.
The previous two rallies were in Asheville, N.C., and Estes Park, Colo.
Medina said he had a relaxing visit and everyone welcomed the AVA with "open arms."
"Everyone in town was very nice," he said.
