July Fourth celebrations bring 50-50 winners

As the smoke clears from the fireworks and people begin to wind down and clean up from the big Fourth of July weekend, many are checking their 50-50 tickets bought at various community celebrations across the Gogebic Range in recent days.

Bessemer’s Fourth of July Committee set a record again upping its sales to build a prize of $33,490. The winning ticket is 11622 and was drawn just before Monday’s parade began.

No official word has come about a winner, but a committee member told the Daily Globe Tuesday afternoon he had been in touch with someone claiming to have the winning ticket and a meeting with the claimant was planned for today.

Last year’s winning prize was $30,494.

The Wakefield Fireworks Committee has located it’s 50-50 winner. Greg Eatherly of Rhinelander, Wis., won $20,000, according to Ron Wanink, who sold him the winning ticket — 1853.

The committee sold out of its 40,000 tickets. Proceeds go to support the fireworks. Wanink said officials won’t only buy fireworks for next year, but also have plans to purchase an electronics board to control the pyrotechnic show.

In Ramsay, a Bessemer Township Fourth of July Committee member said the $5,000 prize has been claimed. She said the name of the winner would be released in the next few days. The winning ticket number is 7651.

In Hurley, the winning ticket for the Hurley Fireworks 50-50 is a red ticket with the number 1470. The prize was still unclaimed as of Tuesday afternoon.
