EAGLE RIVER, Wis. - Grace Patricia Petterson, 94, of Eagle River, formerly of Watersmeet, Mich., died June 21, 2016.
She was born Dec. 8, 1921, in Milwaukee.
Grace graduated from Milwaukee State Teachers College in 1943. She taught in Manistique, Mich., and was the first kindergarten teacher hired in Watersmeet, and in addition, taught other elementary grades for 22 years.
She married Rudolph Petterson, a machinist in the Navy yard, on Aug. 17, 1945, in Honolulu.
She was active with the hospital auxiliary in Lehigh Acres and Eagle River.
She was an active member of the United Church of Christ in Watersmeet, Land O' Lakes and Eagle River when she lived in those communities.
Grace is survived by a daughter, Charyl (Gary) Zeh; son, Wayne (Debbie) Petterson; five granddaughters, Crystal Zeh, Erika Petterson, Heather Zeh, Kara Petterson and Leah Baughman; and four great-granddaughters, Iris Nordine, Julia Kosseff, Hayden Allder and Calla Baughman.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Rudolph Petterson.
A Celebration of Life will be held today, Saturday, July 9, at Ely Memorial UCC Church, Land O' Lakes, beginning at 10 a.m., with a hymn sing at 10:30 a.m. and the service at 11 a.m. Pastor Gary E. Wilner will officiate. She was cremated.
