IRONWOOD - Construction of the outpatient complex at Aspirus Grand View Hospital is about halfway to completion.
Work on the $16 million, 42,000-square foot complex broke ground in November and is on track to be completed on Nov. 9.
During the winter months, Miron Construction, the general contractors, laid the foundation and placed the steel framework of the future complex. Aspirus spokesman David Sim said the weather didn't affect the crew that much and they were able to keep on schedule.
Sim said people will soon see the large windows being installed and exterior siding being put in place.
When completed, Sim said new patients and staff will have more access because the complex is connected to the hospital.
"Everybody will be all together," he said.
Sim said the complex will have an open layout, which will be more welcoming and inviting.
Inside the new complex, there will be 63 patient rooms, 29 provider offices, a high-tech community meeting room and a coffee-gift shop.
With the new space, Sim said Aspirus can provide increased services.
"We'll be able to offer a walk-in clinic service that's seven days a week," he said.
Sim said there will be a physical therapy area, a pediatric therapy space, a cancer care center and a womb clinic in the complex. He said patients for cancer care will have a separate entrance.
Sim said numerous large windows will allow lots of natural light inside.
"The windows are pretty spectacular," he said. "Once it gets to fall, I think there will be a lot of extra color and sunlight. It's going to be pretty exciting."
By bringing the exterior beauty inside, Sim said it will positively impact the patients' mood while they're receiving treatment.
"It will really be a welcoming and inviting atmosphere," he said.
