WOODRUFF, Wis. - Norman V. Babic, 91, of Hurley, passed away on Monday, July 4, 2016, at Howard Young Medical Center, Woodruff.
He was born Dec. 27, 1924, in Mercer, the son of the late Michael and Mary Belle (Schwartz) Babic.
Norman enlisted the U.S. Army on Aug. 14, 1945, until Jan. 31, 1946, where he received the Victory Medal and the Army of Occupation medal in Germany.
Norman was united in marriage to Azola Marie Sell in September 1952 in Winchester. She preceded him in death on Oct. 27, 1996.
Norman was known as "Uncle Squirt" to his family and friends. He worked at St. Regis Box Company and the Mead Company of Milwaukee until his retirement. Norman was an avid outdoorsman. He loved wildlife, hunting and fishing. He especially enjoyed baseball and his beloved Milwaukee Brewers.
He is survived by two sisters, Thelma Pemble and Marie (Donald) Kessler, both of Mercer; many nieces, nephews and cousins; and great-nieces and great-nephews.
Besides his parents and his wife, Azola; he was preceded in death by six brothers, Mitch, Van, Duke, Jack, Marvin and George; and five sisters.
A memorial service will be held 11 a.m. on Saturday, July 16, at the Church of the Nazarene in Mercer with Rev. Kitty Schwanke officiating. Military rites will be accorded by the VFW Post 9536 of Mercer. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday.
