CEDARBURG, Wis. - David James Wallis passed away unexpectedly from natural causes on Feb. 1, 2016, at his home in Cedarburg.
Dave was born on Dec. 8, 1967, to William and Lois Wallis in Bessemer, Mich. He graduated from J.E. Murphy High School in Hurley in 1985 and attended Gogebic Community College and the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee.
Dave loved his family and friends. On frequent visits home he always had a lot to say - Dave was never at a loss for words. He was a self-taught guitarist and vocalist in the local band Lickity Split, and an avid hunter, fisherman and Rush Limbaugh fan.
He grew up playing "Army Maneuvers," but waited until he was 34 to join the military. He was given the nickname "Old Man Wallis" by young recruits in his unit. He served active duty with the U.S. Army Reserve 966th Engineer Company in Operation Iraqi Freedom.
Dave is a lifetime member of the Cedarburg American Legion and VFW.
He is missed terribly by his family and friends.
Dave is survived by his parents, Lois and William Wallis, Hurley; sister, Lori (Steve) Lahti, Ironwood, Mich .; brothers, Bill Wallis, Estero, Fla., and Donald Wallis, Waunaukee; nieces and nephews, Nichole, Rachel and Nick Lahti, and Brandon, Tosha, Amber, Miranda and Michael Wallis; and dear friend, Chuck Norgren.
Per his wishes, cremation has taken place.
A memorial service and interment will be held at the Hurley Cemetery on Monday, Aug. 8, at 11 a.m.
