IRONWOOD TOWNSHIP, Mich. - Kathleen E. "Kato" Gallo, 63, of Ironwood Township, died peacefully Monday, Aug. 1, 2016, in her home, surrounded by her loving family.
She was born May 29, 1953, in Ironwood, daughter of the late John and Ellen (Haapala) Gallo, attended Roosevelt Grade School and graduated from Luther L. Wright High School in 1971. She received an associate degree in psychology from Gogebic Community College in 1994.
Kathy worked in housekeeping in local motels and two private homes, and enrolled in a one-year training program in alcohol and drug counseling. She then was employed as a counselor at Memorial Medical Center Behavioral Health Service in Ashland, Wis., for eight years. She was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Ironwood and enjoyed reading, arts and crafts, gardening and music. She especially enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren.
Surviving are a son, Dion Lehto, Hurley, Wis .; daughter, Dawn (Paul) Gervais, Ironwood; two grandchildren, Morgan and Madelyn Gervais; brothers and sisters, Joseph Gallo, Pensacola, Fla., Judith Makela, Bemidji, Minn., John (Denise) Gallo, Janesville, Wis., Thomas Gallo (Claudia), Holy Oak, Minn., Patricia (Dan) McCullough, Ironwood, Roger (Diane) Gallo, Ironwood, Michael (Beverly) Gallo, Stacey, Minn., Jerry (Diane) Gallo, Ironwood, Dean (Karen) Gallo, Ham Lake, Minn., and Joy Gallo (Wally), and Jeffrey (Colleen) Gallo, both of Ironwood; special family friend, Joni Rickard, Ironwood Township, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents, Kathy was preceded in death by a brother, James Gallo, on Dec. 28, 1956.
Funeral services will be held Friday, Aug. 5, at 11 a.m., preceded by visitation at 10 a.m., at St. Paul Lutheran Church, 111 S. Curry St., in Ironwood, with Pastor Kurt Kovanen officiating.
Cremation will follow.
Private inurnment will be in Sunset Acres Cemetery, Ironwood Township.
Pallbearers will be Jeffrey, Dean, Jerry, Michael, Roger and Thomas Gallo.
