WAUSAU, Wis. - Sandra L. Hornick, 73, Wausau, died Thursday Aug. 4, 2016, at Aspirus Hospice House after a courageous battle with cancer.
She was born Feb. 26, 1943, in Escanaba, Mich., to the late Ernest and Ruth (LaLonde) Sharon. On Oct. 28, 1965, she married Gerald Hornick in Wakefield, Mich. He survives.
After graduating from Wakefield High School, Sandy attended Northern Michigan University and Superior State University. She worked for JI Case in Racine and then as a manager in the audit department at Wausau Insurance for 30 years.
Sandy loved knitting and spending time in nature enjoying activities like gardening, fishing, snowmobiling and ATV-ing. She also did a great deal of volunteer work for various organization throughout the community.
Sandy is survived by her husband, Gerald, Wausau; her son, Shawn, Wausau; brother, Robert Sharon, Wakefield; sisters, Susan (Vern) Menke, Menominee, Mich., and Judy Sharon, Sheboygan; brother-in-law, Bruce Allen, Las Vegas; sister-in-law, Marcia (Rodney) Stanczyak, Wausau; nephews, Brett (Diane) Stanczyak and Ryan Sharon, Jerry Hornick Jr .; and niece, Paula Hyatt.
Besides her parents, Sandy was preceded in death by her sister, Patricia.
Memorial services will be held at 3 p.m. Monday, Aug. 8, at the Peterson-Kraemer Funeral Home, 1302 Sixth St., Wausau. Friends may call on Monday from 2 p.m. until the time of services at the funeral home.
Burial will be in St. Michael Cemetery, Wausau.
