Serving Gogebic, Iron and Ontonagon Counties
BESSEMER — A special meeting of the Gogebic County Board of Commissioners has been set for Tuesday around 5 p.m.
The board will meet at the courthouse after a 4:30 p.m. personnel and negotiations committee meeting.
On the agenda for the special session are approval of a data processing services contract and a discussion with Darren Pionk, Gogebic County Road Commission Engineer-Manager, about county-owned property near Oman’s Creek.
Last Wednesday, the county board discussed the closing of a spring at Little Girl’s Point where the water tested positive for coliform.
The Western Upper Peninsula Health Department urged the road commission to close the spring. The road commission is advising people not to drink from the spring until the water tests are favorable there.
A “please do not drink from the spring” warning has been posted on the road commission’s website.
The pipe at the spring is on a road commission right-of-way and the township would like to see the spring remain open for Point residents by relocating the pipe onto township property.
The county board took no action on the matter Wednesday.
