Patricia A. Strand

HURLEY, Wis. - Patricia A. Strand, 88, of Hurley, died peacefully Tuesday evening, Aug. 23, 2016, at Villa Maria Health and Rehabilitation Center in Hurley, with her loving family by her side.

The former Patricia Reader was born Feb. 3, 1928, in Hurley, daughter of the late George and Margaret (O'Leary) Reader, attended St. Mary's Grade School, and graduated from Lincoln High School in 1945. She was employed at the A&P Store in Hurley for eight years.

Pat was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Hurley. She enjoyed watching TV and doing crossword puzzles, and especially enjoyed spending time with her family.

On June 18, 1949, she was married to James Strand at St. Mary's Church. He preceded her in death on Dec. 27, 1999.

Surviving are two sons, Michael "Red" (Susan), Hurley, and Dennis (Kathleen), North Barrington, Ill .; three daughters, Joan (James) Richards, Ironwood, Mich., Paula (Scott) Whitworth, Minnetonka, Minn., and Mary Pat (Kent) DuFault, Ironwood; 10 grandchildren, Jessica (Jay) Vaughn, and Jeremy Richards and Justin Richards (Torrina), all of Ironwood, Jay Kalla (Missy), Montreal, Jim Kalla (Becca), Hurley, Kaitlyn Strand, New York, Meghan and Kristen Strand, North Barrington, Alyssa DuFault (Jeremy), Clayton, Wis., and Taylor (Zachary) Lane, Boyd, Wis .; five great-grandchildren, Madeline and Hanna Vaughn, Gianna Richards, Kylie Young and Gregory Lane; sister-in-law, Irene Reader, Hurley; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and husband, Pat was predeceased by a son, James Francis, at birth; grandson, Christopher Soine; brothers, Jack and George Reader; sisters, Grace Strand and Betty Bugni; and brothers-in-law, Anthony Bugni and Donald Strand.

Out of respect for her wishes, cremation has taken place.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday, Sept. 3, at noon, preceded by visitation at 11 a.m., at St. Mary's Church in Hurley, with the Rev. Frank Kordek OFM, celebrant.

Rite of Committal and inurnment will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery, Hurley.

Luncheon will be served at the Elk & Hound on Country Club Road in Ironwood upon return from the cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to St. Mary's Church, 404 Iron St., Hurley, WI 54534.
