Hurley, Wis. - Mary Alice Traczyk, 89, of Hurley, died peacefully early Monday morning, Sept. 5, 2016, at Villa Maria Health and Rehabilitation Center in Hurley, with her loving family by her side.
The former Mary Alice Conhartoski was born April 9, 1927, in Montreal, daughter of the late Arthur and Mary (Buddle) Conhartoski. She attended St. Mary's Grade School in Hurley and graduated from Lincoln High School in 1945. She then was employed as a telephone operator for Bell Telephone Co. in Hurley.
On June 14, 1947, she was married to Joseph G. Traczyk at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Hurley by the late Monsignor Michael Prock. Joe preceded her in death on Sept. 13, 2015.
After marrying, Mary Alice enjoyed being a homemaker and mother of nine children. She and Joe owned and operated Joe's Old Office in downtown Hurley for 13 years. She also worked as a cook at Villa Maria Health and Rehabilitation Center, retiring in 1989.
Mary Alice was a member of St. Mary's Church in Hurley and the Auxiliary to Iron County Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1580. She was an excellent cook and enjoyed knitting, gardening and canning. She especially enjoyed spending time with her family.
Surviving are three sons, Tim (Betsy), Hurley, Mark (Jackie), Ironwood, Mich., and Jeff (Janet), Champlin, Minn .; five daughters, Mary Jo (Jim) DuCharme, Champlin, Jean Ann (Greg) Jacobson, Waunakee, Robin Traczyk, Ironwood, Betty (Doug) Anderson, Green Bay, and Carrie Hudacek, Ironwood: 26 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; sisters, Patti (Roger) Paige, Hurley, and Kay Paro, Bergland, Mich .; brothers-in-law, Stanley and Donald Traczyk, both of Hurley; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents and husband, Mary Alice was predeceased by a son, Joe, in 1995; great-granddaughter, Liviya Raye Traczyk; brother, Mickey Conhartowski; and sister, Betty Ann Talo.
Out of respect for her wishes, cremation has taken place.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday, Sept. 10, at 11 a.m., preceded by visitation at 10 a.m., at St. Mary's Church in Hurley, with the Rev. Frank Kordek OFM, celebrant.
Rite of Committal and interment will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery, Hurley.
Luncheon will be served in the parish hall upon return from the cemetery.
