Ironwood - Area residents gathered to admire more than 65 pieces of art on display Thursday evening during the opening reception for the Art of the Porkies exhibit inside the Downtown Art Place in Ironwood.
Every piece of art of the exhibit is inspired by the natural beauty of the Porcupine Mountains Wilderness State Park.
The artwork is part of the permanent collection of the Friends of Porkies, said Porcupine Mountains Artist in Residence Director Sherrie McCabe.
"Each piece has its own flavor and its own interpretation of what the park is about," she said.
McCabe said the Artist-in-Residence Program offers writers, composers and all visual and performing artists an opportunity to experience the natural beauty of the park and to "express it through their art form."
The exhibit runs through Oct. 29 at the DAP.
