BLACK RIVER HARBOR - A Hurley man was rescued from along the Black River late Thursday afternoon after he suffered an apparent broken leg.

Nick Fink, 19, was injured around 5:30 p.m.

The Gogebic Search and Rescue team, Gogebic County Sheriff's Department, Beacon Ambulance, Ironwood Township Fire Department and volunteers responded and Fink was lifted up the side of a cliff and transported out along a walking trail around 6:30 p.m.

Fink was responsive and was able to joke with his family members as he lie on a stretcher along the raging river at Great Conglomerate Falls, tended to by First Responders.

Around a dozen people carried the stretcher up the steep incline along the river, with the assistance of a pulley system.

The U.S. Forest Service trail from Black River Harbor Road to the falls winds downhill for about three-fourths of a mile, requiring an all-terrain vehicle operated by Gogebic County deputy Brandon Lyons to transport Fink out of the woods. An ambulance was waiting in the small parking lot along Black River Harbor Road.
