Serving Gogebic, Iron and Ontonagon Counties

Ironwood Township - Work is underway to repair the Oman's Creek boat launch at Little Girl's Point after it was damaged in the flooding that resulted from the July 11 storm.
Work on repairing the launch began in early October, according to Jeff Gaertner, the park manager for the Porcupine Mountains State Park and Lake Gogebic area with the Department of Natural Resources. He said the schedule calls for the work to be completed in three to four weeks, although he acknowledged things don't always go as planned when doing construction projects in this area during the late fall.
"(The timing) depends on what the weather does," Gaertner said.
The project includes repairs to the boating access ramp, shoreline features and fixing the parking lot next to the boat launch, according to a DNR press release.
The projected is expected to cost $30,000, according to the release, and will be funded through money Gogebic County received from the federal government to assist with storm damage repairs.
Gaertner said the repairs to the Oman's Creek site are being completed by DNR employees.
The boat launch, along with the bridge over Oman's Creek, were severely damaged in the July 11 storm that saw as much as 11 inches of rain hit Little Girl's Point and other areas of the northern Gogebic Range, leaving some of the Point's residents stranded due to numerous road washouts.
Work is also underway to permanently repair the road washouts.
