BRADENTON, Fla. — P. Don Sakalos, 85, formerly of Anvil Location, Bessemer, Mich., and Downers Grove, Ill., passed away early Thursday morning, Oct. 13, 2016, in Bradenton.
Don was born on April 26, 1931, in Ironwood, Mich., the son of Paul and Mary (Parobek) Sakalos. He was raised in Anvil and attended A.D. Johnston High School in Bessemer and graduated in 1949.
Don was a Korean War veteran and a retired accountant.
He is survived by a sister, Janice Johnson, Hudson, Wis .; a dear friend, Julio Castro, Bradenton; several nieces and nephews, and numerous cousins.
A graveside service will be held today, Friday, Oct. 28, at 11 a.m., at Hillcrest Cemetery, Bessemer. The Rev. Timothy J. Steckling, pastor of Our Redeemer Lutheran Church, will officiate.
Following the service, military rites and a flag presentation will take place at the cemetery under the auspices of Bessemer American Legion Post 27 and Bessemer Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3673 Honor Guard.
Jerald Rocco, owner and manager of Lakeside Memorial Chapel Inc., in Wakefield, Mich., is assisting the family.
