Ironwood - The Ironwood Carnegie Library hosted it's first in a series of meetings for National Novel Writing Month on Tuesday evening. The meetings are led by local romance author Jodi Hughes.

Hughes held a discussion with a group of local writers regarding a wide range of topics surrounding writing and development of a story. This week's topic was on forming a strong plot for the novels.

The group discussed their ideas of what a good story entails, and writing tips for keeping the reader engaged. "A good plot just starts with a single idea," said Hughes. Narrative form, genres, plot holes, structure and cliff hangers were all discussed during the meeting. Supplemental handouts and worksheets were also available to aid writers through the process.

Participants were encouraged to ask questions and discuss challenges they are confronted with while writing their novels. Hughes offered her experience and knowledge as a "sounding board" for those looking for ideas or advice.

Next week's meeting will be on character building. It will be held on Tuesday at 6 p.m. at the Ironwood Carnegie Library members of the public are welcome to attend.
