WATERSMEET, Mich. — Martin Schutte, 83, a resident of Watersmeet since 1986 and formerly of Milwaukee, passed away on Nov. 2, 2016, at his home.
Martin was born on Nov. 7, 1932, in Ironwood, to Martin and Edith Schutte. After graduating high school, he proudly served in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Korean conflict. He married his wife, Jean, on June 25, 1955.
Martin worked for 25 years as a general foreman at Caterpillar in Milwaukee. He served as the Watersmeet town treasurer and was a member of the Watersmeet Volunteer Fire Department. Martin was also a proud member of the Watersmeet American Legion and would also speak to school children on Veterans Day.
He enjoyed deer hunting and fishing. He was a loving and caring husband and father, a true rock and guide to his family.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Jean, on April 9, 2010; and his parents.
He is survived by his children, Marty (Laurene) Schutte, of Oka Creek, Wis., Laurie (Kevin) Stranz, of Wausau, Wis., and Jim Schutte, of Franklin, Wis .; his sister, Elizabeth Koepp, of Wimauma, Fla .; grandchildren, Kristy, Sam, Amelia, Nick and Matthew; and great-grandson, Dominick.
A graveside service with military honors will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 26, at the Watersmeet Municipal Cemetery in Watersmeet.
