Dennis R. Whitebird

ODANAH, Wis. - Dennis R. Whitebird, age 58, of Odanah, passed away Friday, November 25, 2016 at St. Mary's Medical Center, in Duluth, Minn. He was born April 29, 1958, in Ashland, the son of Maynard and Joyce (Maday) Whitebird Sr.

In 1976, he graduated from Ashland High School and later attended UW-Superior. For many years, Dennis worked as a custodian and in surveillance at Bad River Casino, in Odanah. He was a first responder for the Bad River Volunteer Fire Department. Dennis enjoyed hunting, playing Keno, and spending time with his children and grandchildren.

He is survived by six children, Peggy (Mike Westlund) Whitebird, Ashland, Ryan Whitebird, Odanah, Amanda (Fernando) Gulan-Burns, Spooner, Louis (Amy Gonzalez) Whitebird, Odanah, Nathan (Ashley Salawater) Whitebird, Odanah, and Mason Whitebird, Manitowoc; three step-children, Billy (Tracey) Jensen, Ironwood, Lauritz Robertson, Cameron, and Jesse (Ciji) Jensen, Ashland; his special little man, Roman James; 12 grandchildren; two brothers, Richard (Patty) Whitebird, Sun Prairie and Mike (Kathy Craig) Whitebird, Odanah; two sisters, Carla (Eugene Jr.) Bigboy, Odanah and Marianne (Jim) LaGrew, Odanah; numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a granddaughter, Christabella Whitebird; and a brother, Maynard "Plug" Whitebird Jr.

Traditional services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 1, at Bad River Community Center, in Odanah, with Joseph Corbine Sr. officiating.

Interment will take place in Odanah Cemetery.

Visitation will be held after 5 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 30, at the Bad River Community Center.
