WHITE PINE, Mich. - Lucille Helen Puuri, age 87, passed away on November 21, 2016. She was born on October 10, 1929 in Ahmeek. She was baptized in Apostolic Lutheran Church in Calumet. She attended school in Ahmeek and Wolverine, middle school in Laurium, graduated from Calumet High School in 1948.
On April 8, 1950, Lucille was united in marriage to Paul Matthew Puuri.
Lucille and her husband, Paul, have been long time residents of White Pine, since 1954.
They were long time members of Faith Lutheran Church in White Pine until the church was consolidated with Lutheran church in Ontonagon. Lucille served on the altar guild for many years at Faith Lutheran Church and taught Sunday school.
Lucille and husband are friends of Methodist Church in White Pine and Bergland.
Lucille enjoyed painting, sewing, cake decorating, reading, gardening, canning of vegetables, berries and apples, traveling, visiting family and friends and attending music jamborees.
Lucille was preceded in death by parents, Raymond and Lydia (Salonen) Bekkala; brothers, Roland and Roy Bekkala; and infant son, Robin Puuri.
Survived by her loving, devoted husband of 66 years, Paul Puuri; brother Art Bekkala; sister Lenore Carlson; sister-in-law Paulette Bekkala; son, David (Vicki) Puuri; daughter, Sharon (Brent) Olson;, Susan (Joseph) Duda; son, Dan (Lorraine) Puuri; grandchildren: Courtney (Sean) Barrett, Geoffrey (Angela) Puuri, Michael Duda, Kevin (Amy) Duda, Rachel Puuri, Iylea (Brent) Thompson, Josh (Colleen) Puuri, Drew Olson, Jason Puuri (Kortney), Joe (Arielle) Puuri; great grandchildren: Timothy Puuri, Jacob Puuri, Caia Thompson, Emma Barrett; numerous nephews and nieces.
Lucille will be sadly missed by her husband, family and friends to whom she gave much laughter with her sense of humor, smiles and love with being so caring, humble and kind.
Funeral services will be held at 12 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 1, at Zion Lutheran Church in Hancock, with Pastor Jesse Aho to officiate. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until the time of service on Thursday in the church. A luncheon will immediately follow the service in the fellowship hall at the church followed by burial in the Liminga Cemetery.
