GREEN BAY, Wis. - John R. Schulze, 68, Hurley, died peacefully on Saturday, Nov. 20, 2016, at St. Vincent Hospital, Green Bay, after a short battle with cancer.
He was born May 24, 1948, in Painesdale, Mich., to the late Genevieve Krenzel (Turakiewicz) and Gerhard Schulze.
He was an avid sportsman with an intense love for fishing, but the real success story of his life was the love and admiration of his grandchildren. His true joy came from camping trips, teaching them to fish, stories by the campfire and sitting with them by the lake. They will forever remember his giant laugh, enduring sense of humor, wit and capacity to always live life on his own terms.
He will be forever and profoundly missed by his daughter, Christine Bornemann, De Pere; his son, Edward Schulze, Oshkosh; and the loves of his life, his grandchildren, Hannah Bornemann (Ryker Schneider), Green Bay, and Zachary Bornemann, De Pere. They all have inherited his love for fishing, his sarcasm, his beautiful green eyes and his love for chocolate and ice-cream. He will also be dearly missed by his brothers, Gerry, Danny and Gene; his sisters, Gen, Maxine, Shirley, Marlene and Darlene; several nieces and nephews, dear friends, and former wife, Sandra Schulze, all of whom he cherished.
He was met in heaven by his parents; and his sisters, Annie and Michelle.
Cremation will take place and a memorial is being planned in Hurley in the spring. We lost a great man and the world will surely be a much smaller place.
John has gone fishing.
