Ironwood — While covering new business at the Gogebic Community College board meeting, the discussion turned to the limited number of resident students and the financial burden this placed on the college. The board recognized the need to emphasize on-campus residency in the future to alleviate the burden on the General Fund.

Tony Pollack, school accountant, said the school was in good financial condition and trending in the right direction. “The school keeps good records, implements cost cutting measures, and does everything possible to keep tuition costs low,” said Pollack.

The board voted to accept the RNA Facilities Management, out of Ann Arbor, contract for cleaning services on campus. They will start with two full time employees with the expectation this number will grow to as many as four employees in the future.

The board also voted to accept the creation of a new certificate program requiring sixteen credit hours, emphasizing short-term training programs that put people to work. As such, an occupational certificate will be awarded to students completing the CDL driving courses sixteen required credits.
