Bessemer — Faced with the prospects of interviewing six candidates for a Gogebic County Road Commission board vacancy, the county board devised a plan Wednesday for the sessions.

Board members agreed to meet at 4 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 14, to begin interviewing the candidates. The board is scheduled for a regular 5 p.m. meeting on that date, but it will probably be delayed because of the interviews, or the interviews will be sandwiched around the 5 p.m. meeting.

County board members said it’s possible that not all of the candidates will be able to be interviewed on that date, but they said there is no ideal day for interviews and if the candidates have a strong enough interest, they will show up.

There are five members on the road commission board, with one vacancy to be filled by the county board’s appointment.

In other business Wednesday, the county board reappointed Tom Fiala, Tom Auvinen and Shelley Suckow to the Gogebic County Fair Board.

The fair board and its chairman, Jim Gribble, had supported the reappointments at its Nov. 7 meeting.

The county board tabled an appointment to the Land Bank Authority until January. County commissioner Leroy Kangas’ membership on the LBA will expire at the end of the year and the appointment will be for three years.

Also, the county board will advertise for a vacancy on the Gogebic County Department of Health and Human Services Board. Robert Sharon’s term will expire.

Two members of the DHHS board are appointed by the county board and the third member is appointed by the Michigan DHHS director, according to Scott Parrott, who is the Gogebic-Ontonagon-Iron Counties DHHS director.
