CENTENNIAL, Colo. - Dominic L. DeMarte passed away peacefully on Dec. 6, 2016.
Dom was born in Bessemer, Mich., on Oct. 10, 1931, to Domenick and Margaret DeMarte. They were first generation Italians. His father worked long, difficult hours in the iron ore mines until an accident left him unable to return. He passed this strong work ethic onto his four children, Mary Ann, Domenic, Charles and Michael.
Dom graduated high school in 1949 and put himself through Gogebic Junior College, graduating second in his class. He then attended Michigan State University and earned his Bachelor and Master of Science degrees in geology, with honors.
He met his wife, Martha Jill Russell, in Amarillo in 1962. They married in February 1963 in Liberal, Kan. They had three children, David, Nicole and Jason.
Education had always held the utmost importance to Dom and he instilled this in all three of his children.
He was hired by Pickards & Mather Company as a geologist, working in Labrador for four years. He continued climbing the ladder of success through Apache Corp., Skelly Oil Company, Getty Oil and eventually retiring from Trend Adobe as the exploration vice president in the early '90's.
Dom was intensely devoted to his family and faith. He was a devout Catholic all his life and truly a family man.
He is survived by his wife, Jill; son, David Brian DeMarte (Karey); daughter, Lisa Nicole Rost (Rodney); son, Jason Paul DeMarte (Allison); and three grandchildren, Melanie G. Rost, Trevor J. Rost, and Emmett I. DeMarte.
