Helen Stahovic

WAKEFIELD, Mich. - Helen Stahovic, 95, formerly of Ironwood, passed away Monday, Dec. 12, 2016, in Wakefield.

She was born Nov. 9, 1921, in Wakefield, daughter of the late Peter and Stella (Lalich) Churitch, and graduated from Wakefield High School in 1939. She attended St. Joseph's School of Nursing in Ashland, Wis., and became a Registered Nurse. She then served in the U.S. Army Nurse Corps as a Second Lt. during World War II.

Helen worked at Grand View Hospital and Gogebic Medical Care Facility for several years, retiring in 1975. She was a member of Ironwood American Legion Post 5. She enjoyed doing crossword and jigsaw puzzles and was proud to participate in the Harvard Nurses Health Study.

Helen was married to Edward Stahovic. He passed away on Oct. 9, 1976.

She is survived by daughters, Shirley (Gary) Lowe, Ironwood Township, and Patti Carli, Lenexa, Kansas; granddaughters, Valorie Carli and Connie (Hillary) Oyugi; great-grandchildren, Brooklyn and Brody; a sister-in-law, Karen Churitch, and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by siblings, Robert, Peter, George, Mary, Sophie, Millie and Margaret; and son-in-law, Ronald Carli.

Private family burial will be held in the spring at Riverside Cemetery, Ironwood.
