DULUTH, Minn. - Donald G. Johnson, 71, of Ironwood Township, Mich., died Monday evening, Dec. 12, 2016, at Essentia Health-St. Mary's Medical Center in Duluth.
He was born May 31, 1945, in Bessemer Township, Mich., son of the late Herbert and Dorothy (Bullen) Johnson, and graduated from high school in Wakefield, Mich., in 1963. He attended Gogebic Community College in Ironwood for one year, then entered the U.S. Army, proudly serving his country for three years in Germany during the Vietnam War.
Following his honorable discharge, Donald worked at Mercury Outboards in Cedarburg, Wis. for one year. Returning to Wakefield, he was employed at Ironwood Products until the company closed, then worked at Ironwood Plastics, as a postal employee at the Ironwood Post Office and briefly as Postmaster at the Hurley, Wis. Post Office, retiring as Postmaster at the Wakefield Post Office in 2000. He enjoyed fishing, gardening and spending quality time with his grandchildren.
On June 6, 1970, he was married to the former Sharon R. Novak-Pisco at Sharon Lutheran Church in Ramsay.
Surviving are his wife, Sharon, of 46 years; son, Mark (Karen) Johnson, Ironwood Township; daughter, Karry Johnson (Nick Pristash), Superior, Wis .; two grandchildren, Tayler Aspinwall and Evan Johnson; a brother, Herbert (Judy) Johnson, Ironwood; brothers- and sisters-in-law, Joe (Barbara) Pisco and Michael (Cecilia) Pisco, Ironwood Township, Walter Pisco, Mercer Island, Wash., Marlene Johnson, Ironwood, and Jordan (Anita) Segal, Mt. Prospect, Ill .; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, Donald was predeceased by a brother, Dennis Johnson; and sister, Verna Segal.
A private family gathering will take place at the McKevitt-Patrick Funeral Home in Ironwood.
Spring interment will be in Sunset Acres Cemetery, Ironwood Township.
