Serving Gogebic, Iron and Ontonagon Counties

Ironwood - The Gogebic Community College Board met on Tuesday, closing out the year. During the meeting the board discussed the changing of rates for the Mount Zion ski hill.
The $85.00 ski pass for local schools will not change, which the school felt is a solid deal for students, but the daily rates and rentals are increasing for the first time in two years. With two minimum wage pay increases absorbed recently by the school, they must recoup some of the costs and even with the increases they still feel their costs are below any regional ski hill operation.
The full day rate is climbing $5.00 and the half day rate is increasing $2.00. The school did not expect a significant revenue adjustment from those changes, but streamlined rentals, where they expect to see the biggest difference. Alpine complete rentals are now $27 dollars for a full day instead of $18.
During the discussion on the health of the schools finances, Erik Guenard disclosed the schools expenditures are down 3 percent as compared to last year, offering some cost savings they were not expecting.
Kathie Munn, employed at the school since 1979 in the Information Technology/Computer Services department, is retiring as Director of Computer Services,m effective June 30, 2017. Munn worked her way through the ranks, starting in a temporary position before becoming full-time staff. The board expressed best of luck in retirement and all future endeavors and that the school would always be thankful for her contributions.
