HURLEY, Wis. — Marie R. Calligaro, 96, a lifelong Pence resident, died Wednesday afternoon, Dec. 21, 2016, at Villa Maria Health and Rehabilitation Center in Hurley.
The former Marie R. Kaseno was born Sept. 5, 1920, in Mellen, daughter of the late George and Anna (Turney) Kaseno, and attended Mellen schools.
She was married to Alfred Stever in February 1937, in Mellen. He preceded her in death in October 1940.
She then was married to William B. Calligaro on Dec. 26, 1943, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Montreal by the late Father Kubiak. William preceded her in death on July 26, 1977.
Marie was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Hurley and the former Holy Redeemer Catholic Church in Pence and its Ladies Guild. She enjoyed cooking, crocheting, carpentry and gardening.
Surviving are a son, Richard (Doris) Stever, Kenosha; three daughters, Darlene (Charles) Mallo, Phillips; Rosemarie Raivio, Pence; and Judith (James) Peterson, Ironwood, Mich .; 15 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and three sisters, Helen Miller and Verona (Earl) Swetkovich, both of Pence, and Alice Tafelski, Mellen.
Besides her parents and husbands, Marie was predeceased by two sons, David and William Calligaro; two grandchildren, Raymond Gervais and Brenda Raivio-Anderson; son-in-law, William Raivio; two brothers, John and Michael Kaseno; and five sisters, Katherine Kaseno in infancy, Mary Kaseno, Ann Miller, Pauline Reinerio and Rose Nybower.
