Ironwood Township — Township residents had the opportunity Thursday evening to ask questions about the new water line that will be installed next summer by the city of Ironwood north of Sunset Road to the city’s pump station in the township.

Township board member Steve Boyd and three township residents asked questions of Mike Foley, of Coleman Engineering, and city officials who attended the hearing at the township hall.

Foley noted the city’s wells on Pump Station Road and at Spring Creek supply water to the city’s tank on the top of Mt. Zion through a 16-inch line that was constructed in 1922, so a new line was necessary.

The new line will run parallel to the conpanion 1922 line.

He said there’s about 6,000 feet of line to be constructed in the township, with about 2,500 feet south of Northstar Road and the rest north of Northstar.

A construction firm that will be selected in March will begin working in May and it will tackle from 200 to 400 feet per day.

Northstar Road will be closed for a few days and water will be out to individual homes for a few hours as the project advances.

Ironwood City Manager Scott Erickson said township residents will be informed of the schedule when the federally-funded project reaches the construction phase.

The project in the township is expected to run about six to eight weeks.
