HURLEY — A student at the Hurley K-12 School had been “removed from school pending further investigation,” after the student allegedly threatened other students, the Iron County Sheriff’s Department and Hurley Police Department announced Tuesday.
According to a joint press release, the two departments said they had been called to the school to investigate “verbal/written threats” that had been made by a student in a classroom.
Due to the involvement of minors, Sheriff’s Department officials declined to provide additional information; but the release said the parents of students “directly involved” in the incident had been notified.
No weapons were involved, according to the release.
Earlier Tuesday, the district had posted a message on its Facebook page regarding a situation “that was isolated to a select few students.”
The post said the district was working with law enforcement and stressed the student body and staff remained safe.
“We are just confirming that the situation has been addressed and all students and staff continue to remain safe,” the message said.
The district later made a second Facebook post relating the information in the law enforcement press release.
Last week the Ironwood Area School District issued a release saying the district was made aware of a list with several students names written on it Thursday that was perceived as a threat.
