ONTONAGON, Mich. — Carl John Domitrovich, 88, died peacefully in his home on Thursday, March 16, 2017, surrounded by family.
Carl was born to Frank and Mary Domitrovich on the family farm outside Ontonagon on May 24, 1928. He was the second of nine children. Carl graduated from Ontonagon High School in 1946.
He worked the family farm, and he and his brother, George, started a logging company together.
In 1961, he married Janet Morin. They built their own home on the Domitrovich farm and raised five children there. Carl spent his entire life farming and logging, teaching his children the importance of a good work ethic.
Carl loved deer hunting, working in the garden, woodworking, building camps, including the Stein Club, of which he was a founding member. He had a chainsaw in his hand, making firewood any chance he could get, up until the last few months of his life.
Carl’s life revolved around his faith. He was a lifelong, very active member of Holy Family Catholic Church and a member of the Knights of Columbus. He was unwavering in his faith, living his life as Jesus taught. He was a kind, considerate man, who will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
He is survived by his wife, Janet; five children, Lucy (Brian) Roberts, Joe (Monica) Domitrovich, Betsy (Warren) Morphew, Peter (Tami) Domitrovich and Margaret (Bill) Stecker; 15 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild; brothers, Stanley, Tony and George; and a sister, Dorothy.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Frank and Martin; and sisters, Helen and Mary Lou.
The funeral will be held at Holy Family Catholic Church on Tuesday, at 11 a.m., with visitation beginning an hour before Mass.
The burial will be the spring.
