Bessemer - Despite the snow and cold weather, Big Powderhorn Mountain held a tropical themed Hawaii Weekend on Saturday.
The annual event was comprised of an on hill scavenger hunt with clues scattered throughout the slopes, a raffle, and prizes from the Powderhorn Gifts & Brews gift-shop. "Lots of people really enjoy the scavenger hunt." said General Manager and Co-Owner Bruce Noren.
Skiers were given leis upon entering the lodge, which was decorated with flowers and other Hawaiian style decor. There was a snow bar at the base of the hill complete with brats, burgers, and hot dogs fresh off the grill.
Later on in the evening, there was a frozen t-shirt contest and live music by Powderhorn house band Xtra at the Caribou Bar. "People try everything to thaw the t-shirt so they can get them on. It's a lot of fun." said Noren.
The annual snowfall was less than usual this year, but the ski hill persevered with a festive spirit.
"It's just a fun thing to do each year. People like to come and have a good time. It's a great way to wrap-up the season." said skier Dave Gallenberger.
The hill will continue to remain open until April 1.
