Hurley - An Illinois resident waived extradition to that state in Iron County Court Monday afternoon to face charges of being a sexually violent person (escape).

David William Hermosillo Jr., 50, of Bloomington, was arrested early Sunday in Mercer by the Iron County Sheriff's Department on a fugitive criminal complaint.

Area law enforcement agencies had received a report that Hermosillo might be somewhere on the Gogebic Range.

Det. Lt. Paul Samardich said his department received word Saturday about Hermosillo and he was arrested at a private residence early on Sunday morning.

Iron County Judge Patrick Madden presided over the short Monday extradition proceeding, with Iron County District Attorney Matt Tingstad representing the state.

Madden said if Hermosillo wished to contest the extradition, a warrant would have to be signed by the Illinois governor through the Wisconsin governor's office to return him to face charges.

Hermosillo said he didn't wish to seek an attorney and agreed to be brought back to Illinois on the charges that carry a $1 million bond. "I'll sign the extradition," he said.

At one point in the proceeding, Madden asked Hermosillo if he was in pain. The defendant said he was grimacing because his ankle shackle was too tight, so Samardich adjusted it.

The Gogebic County Sheriff's Department posted Hermosillo's photo on Facebook prior to his arrest, saying he is a violent person. He was spotted in the Wakefield area around 11 a.m. Saturday, according to the sheriff's department.

Crime Stoppers of McLean County, Ill., had offered a $1,000 reward for the apprehension of Hermosillo, who also had used the name David Sizeman in the past.
